The Truly Me story

Truly Me is the result of a very personal experience by founder, Emmy Smith. Having suffered post natal depression after giving birth to both of her children, she used the internet to search for other women’s stories that would help benchmark her own experience. She didn’t want to speak to anyone, she just wanted to read real stories that may give her information and/or hope.

Unfortunately such a website didn’t exist and she had to find her own road back to health. Fully recovered and much more aware of women’s private anxieties she realised that most women, no matter how wonderful their lives appear, have something going on that is difficult to deal with. Spurred on by the wish to help women feel better, she started to research her hunch that sharing real stories on a wide range of issues would help a lot of women.

In doing the research she was told time and again that story-sharing across a range of issues affecting women from 30 to 70 would help. But crucially women made the point that they don’t want to feel miserable about life - they want to feel wonderful. They want to unashamedly treat themselves. They love rare and beautiful things. They want to regain those ‘catch your breath’ moments that were taken for granted in their teens and early twenties.

So, Truly Me was born. The online version of meeting your best friend for a heart-to-heart, then linking arms and going shopping in a limited edition retail heaven. Absolutely everything on this site is here to encourage you to feel good. If you are going through something tricky - chances are another woman has shared her experience of the same thing and you may feel better having read her story. If you want to treat yourself to something beautiful that your friends will envy, you will find a range of one-off or limited edition jewellery and accessories from British design talent. And if you want to experience the incredible, we’ve got some very memorable and special events.

Our aim is to remind you how incredible you are, to help you look in the mirror and feel positive about things, to encourage you to feel wonderful. If you leave this website feeling better than when you entered it, we will have gone some way to doing our job.

We only sell the most unusual gifts we can find.  We've searched long and hard to show you unique gifts for women from the smallest and most divine suppliers.  We DO NOT visit the large trade fairs which would result in nice but mass produced pressies.  We visit small, local craft markets and we take word of mouth recommendations about special designers who produce work of the highest quality.  If you want something that very few other people have, a unique gift, a luxury gift, you'll find it here.  Because of that philosophy, our gift range is beautifully and unashamedly small.  We turn down 99% of the designers who approach us, in our bid to keep our unique gifts unique!
